Over the last few years, we’ve seen a huge rise in the interest men are paying to jewellery for themselves. Long gone are the days when the only men sporting jewellery were rockstars or used car salesmen, but the average Aussie male had remained reluctant to sport little more than a watch and a wedding band until just a few years ago!
That’s changing and changing fast. Maybe they have been influenced by the brace of footy stars sporting jewellery (who were in turn influenced by David Beckham way back when), but many men are definitely branching out confidently into the world of bracelets, dress rings and necklaces. Is your guy among them – love your feedback on whether he wears jewellery, if so what and if not, do you know why not?
Some guys still need a little supporting through the decision though. I had a lovely guy in recently who was dying to buy a necklace, but just wasn’t quite confident enough to go for it. It turns out it was because he couldn’t think of any of his mates who wore one. As he’d also mentioned he was getting married in a couple of months, we suggested he consider groomsman’s gifts of necklaces in a similar style. Problem solved – there are four men about to receive sterling silver dog tags in the next few weeks and our smiling bridegroom left the store wearing his.
At Jive, the favourite men’s rings are medium wide bands with some detailing, such as slots, cabling or embossing in either silver or stainless steel. (We’ve noticed, men seem to shy away from yellow gold, unless it is used just as a detail with silver, and they are matching it to a mixed metal watch).
One of our most popular men’s rings is the Stainless Steel Cable ring $99. Another of our popular men's rings, this time in sterling silver, is the Sterling Silver Stud ring $169.
The favourite necklaces are the dog tag style or plain braided leather and in bracelets, leather -adorned with silver or not - leads the pack by a country mile. Stainless steel bracelets while rising up the rankings fast are often layered in with the leather ones. Like our bridegroom, ease him into jewellery with the matching Dog Tag necklace $225. Or keep it simple and go with the safe, but ever so well received leather bracelet. Here are a couple of choices, the Black Leather and Steel Bracelet $100, and the Black Silver and Leather Bracelet $315.

So there you have it, be warned, I predict we’ll all be vying for space in our own jewellery chests very soon!
